Training of Trainers Programme

SADPD does not have the resources (finance nor human) required to meet the enormous needs for capacity building. Hence, we need to network with other important organisations and create a common approach on how to best assist DPOs, governments and NGOs in building the capacity required to enable persons with disabilities to be fully included in the different sectors of our society.

A programme consisting of three equally and interlinked phases was designed by SADPD. As follows:

Workshop 1 was implemented 13 – 18 August 2007 for Anglophone trainers (from South and East Africa) and 10 - 15 December 2007 for Francophone trainers (from West, North and Central Africa). This workshop focused on training methodology for adults, as well as a few technical areas important for organisations working in the disability sector. The workshops were held in Cape Town, South Africa and Saly, Senegal respectively.

The second step of this programme consists of the application of the skills that the participants acquired during step 1. The participants commit themselves to conduct a training programme for members / staff / target groups within their own organisation, in which disability matters are addressed.

Step 3 of this programme will be taken in the second half of 2008. The trainers who have successfully completed the application phase will come together to discuss their experiences. This workshop will also provide additional training in pedagogy and methodology suitable for the training of adults.
